Caramel Apple Tostadas
Churros meet candied apples in this dessert-friendly take on tostadas—no fryer required. Baking our Sonora-style tortillas creates the perfectly crisp canvas for homemade dulce du leche, honey, and cultured sour cream to balance out the sweetness with a little tang. Fresh apples add a crisp and juicy finish.
Serves: 4 people
Ingredients
- 4 Rise & Puff Original Tortillas
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
- ½ Tablespoon drizzled honey
- ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 Tablespoon Sour Cream
- Vanilla bean paste, from ¼ vanilla bean or ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ apple, sliced
The Build
Make the dulce du leche. Make a pin hole in a can of sweetened condensed milk and place the can in a 4 qt pot. Fill the pot with water to the top of the can, leaving the top free of water - bring to a boil, then keep at a gentle simmer for two hours. Cool in ice water before opening.
Place four Rise & Puff tortillas on a baking sheet and bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit until puffed, about ten minutes. Allow them to come to room temperature. Mix the vanilla and sour cream and spread over the top of the tortilla. Next, drizzle the dulce de leche and honey over the top. Finish with a dusting of cinnamon and sliced apples!
